2008 Fall Bonsai Show (and Sale)
Saturday and Sunday, September 27 & 28, 2008, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Worner Student Center, Colorado College, 902 N. Cascade Ave. This was our sixth annual show at this venue. Sixty compositions were displayed courtesy of nine members. The trees included the following: Ponderosa pine (8), Shimpaku juniper, Bristlecone pine, Scented-leaf geranium, Colorado blue spruce (6), Douglas fir, Chinese elm, Green mound juniper (2), American larch, Lilac, Japanese maple (3), Azalea, Seiju elm, Green island banyan fig, Dwarf pomegranate, Bougainvillea, Brazilian rain tree, Ficus (4), Garden juniper, Rosemary, Boulevard cypress, Japanese black pine, European olive, Fukien tea (2), Dwarf Alberta spruce, Blaauw juniper, Buttonwood, Blue rug juniper, Japanese five-needle pine, Dwarf hinoki false cypress (2), Jaboticaba, Bougainvillea variegated, Norfolk island pine, English ivy, Rocky mountain juniper, Zelkova, Engelman spruce, and two unidentified mame (1 conifer, 1 tropical). Plus sixteen suiseki, one Chinese scholar stone, and eleven accessory plants. And a "Potensai" section with Crown of thorns euphorbia (2), Jade, Elephant food, and an unidentified plant. 1) Brazilian Rain Tree 2) Japanese Maple (DTC) 3) 2-way tie: Azalea, Japanese Maple Forest 5) 2-way tie: Green Island Banyan Tree, Jaboticaba With 493 votes cast, the top 10 vote-getters for the People's Choice were: 1) Dwarf Hinoki False Cypress 2) 2-way tie: Japanese Maple (DTC), Brazilian Rain Tree 4) Green Island Banyan Tree 5) Dwarf Pomegranate 6) Azalea 7) Ponderosa Pine (DTC) 8) Japanese Maple Forest 9) Rosemary 10) Green Mound Juniper Photos by David Conlin
